Has India really lost the AI race? Amitabh Kant, Former G20 Sherpa and Former CEO of NITI Aayog, argues that the biggest AI opportunity for India may still lie ahead. Speaking at Business Today’s India @ 100 event, Kant says India can become a major global hub for AI applications by leveraging its technical talent, data advantage and rapidly expanding data-centre infrastructure. He points to nearly $200 billion of potential data-centre investment and says global AI talent is increasingly moving to India. From pharma and healthcare to manufacturing, nutrition and education, Kant believes India can build AI applications for the world. He argues that while the race for large language models may be dominated by the US and China, the application layer remains wide open - and India has a major opportunity to lead it.
