JSW’s ₹2,500 Crore Electric Truck Bet: Parth Jindal On AMPSTAR

JSW MG Motor India Chairman Parth Jindal has unveiled AMPSTAR, a new electric truck and bus brand aimed at India’s commercial EV market. Jindal says around 40% of the diesel India imports is used by trucks and buses, making commercial vehicles a key part of the country’s electric mobility transition. He estimates that 20 - 30% of India’s heavy commercial vehicle and bus demand could shift to electric, implying a potential market of 75,000 - 1 lakh units. AMPSTAR’s Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar facility has an initial capacity of 15,000 units, with ₹2,500 crore already invested. Jindal says the capacity can be doubled once utilisation crosses 70%. The company plans to target government e-bus tenders and private-sector truck customers, while offering battery swapping, charging and leasing solutions.
