‘Many Thought We Would Not Succeed’: Ramaphosa Hails BRICS Declaration and India’s Chairship

South African President Cyril Ramaphosa praised India for hosting what he called a very successful BRICS Summit 2026. Ramaphosa said there had been doubts over whether BRICS members would be able to adopt a joint declaration, but the grouping ultimately succeeded in reaching an agreement. He congratulated all BRICS members and gave special credit to India for organising the summit. Ramaphosa also highlighted the scale of India’s chairship, pointing to around 350 meetings held across 30 cities. He said organising such a large number of engagements requires significant effort from the host country.
