Piyush Goyal: “India’s Trade Agreements Now Cover $70 Trillion In GDP” | Bloomberg New Economy Forum
Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal has outlined India’s approach to self-reliance and global trade at the Bloomberg New Economy Forum. Reflecting on supply-chain disruptions during COVID-19, Goyal said India recognised the need to strengthen domestic capabilities in critical sectors, including semiconductors, food and energy. He stressed that self-reliance does not mean isolation, pointing to trade agreements covering economies with a combined GDP of $70 trillion, according to his remarks. Goyal said India aims to expand that coverage to around $85 trillion, while building trusted partnerships that balance supply-chain efficiency with self-sufficiency in strategically important areas.
