Shaktikanta Das Says India Within Striking Distance Of 8% Growth
Shaktikanta Das, Principal Secretary to the Prime Minister, highlights India’s strong economic resilience despite a challenging global environment marked by wars, fragmentation, technological blockades, energy price volatility and rising inflation. He points out that India’s real GDP grew 7.8% in the first quarter of the current financial year, supported by strong domestic demand and investment. Das also notes that India recorded an average annual GDP growth of 7.9% during the five-year post-COVID period from FY22 to FY26. Taking the period from July-September 2025-26 to April-June 2026-27 into account, he says India’s real GDP growth slightly exceeds 8%. Das reiterates his earlier view that India is “within a striking distance of 8% growth,” even as global growth faces significant challenges.
